I was seeking to emulate the classic romantic adventure soundtracks of the mid twentieth century, such as the work of Miklos Rosza (Ben-Hur, El Cid, and The Thief of Baghdad), Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven), Bernard Herrmann (Vertigo), Nino Rota (Romeo and Juliet), Ennio Morricone (The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly), Jerry Goldsmith (Star Trek: The Motion Picture), and a bit more recently, the work of Basil Poledouris (1982’s Conan the Barbarian) and Patrick Doyle (Much Ado About Nothing). Several classical composers have had a strong influence on me (and on the aforementioned soundtrack composers, no doubt), especially Claude Debussy, Gustave Holst, and Ralph Vaughn Williams.
